Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund
Funding for heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures
The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme provides grant funding to public sector organisations to install heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures in their buildings.
Capital funding is provided by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and is delivered by Salix. Its aim is to reduce direct carbon emission from public buildings.
The government has committed to reaching net zero by 2050 and reducing carbon emissions from public buildings by 50% by 2032. More than a third of public emissions come from schools, colleges, and universities and as 2032 draws closer they will increasingly be held to account.
For successful candidates, the scheme offers up to 100% of the cost of the capital projects and can provide welcome assistance to help decarbonise their buildings.
However, changes to the scoring criteria over the years can make it difficult for schools and academies to secure funding, due to the aging nature of the school estate, many of which are system builds and thermally inefficient.
We have supported clients in the successful applications of PSDS and welcome conversations with any educational establishment interested in applying. During our discussion, we will be able to advise you on your likelihood of securing funding and what other measure you could be putting in place on your journey to net zero.
